About the event
In preparation, decide which plants (preferrably cat friendly) of yours you would like to swap. Remember that cuttings take time to root so take the time to do it in advance as this will be for trading of rooted plants. Repurpose a box or have something that you bring for transport of plants that are to be swapped and for transporting any new ones home and be sure to tag your plants with a label of what it is and how to care for it to the best of your knowledge. You can always add a social media handle to the labels to stay in contact with folks that you may meet and swap with.
- Attendees are invited to find an empty spot at the tables in the cafe and arrange cuttings neatly
- As soon as the swap is officially on, you are welcome to talk with those regarding your plant(s) of interest
- You can either list off your plants or invite them to your station so they get a better sense of what you have to offer to swap. From here, trades can either look like a one-to-one swap, or multiple plants in exchange for one plant. Whatever the exchange, don’t feel pressured to accept a trade if you’re not really into it.
A few rules:
- Do offer trades that are comparable in desirability and/or value
- Don’t take anything from anyone’s station without their consent
- Do stay respectful and kind with your fellow swappers
- Don’t get offended or pushy when someone says “no”
- Do get away from your station every now and then to build relationships within your local plant community
- Don’t feel bad if someone you traded with re-swaps your plant with someone else
- Do have fun!
